Our Leadership
IMPACT Delaware was founded in 2004 as SPEAAK, Supporting Parents for the Education of African American Parents by a number of caring adults in western sussex county Delaware. The original founders were Jerry and Latrinka Lee, Dara Laws (Savage), Terence and Desi Moore, Marcus and Tamara Mullen, Dara Laws (Savage), Chandra Phillips, and Marvin Phillips.
OUR TEAM
Dr. Julius and Natasha Mullen expanded IMPACT by using their expertise as mental health professionals, adding their perspectives as parents and active community members, to answer the calling, "be who you needed when you were young." The Mullens' filled a desperate need in their community - recognizing the increased risks of delinquency, violence, teen pregnancy, drugs and school drop outs when youth lacked a connection to a caring adult, they developed a youth mentoring program that also sought to increase positive parent engagement. Committing themselves with countless volunteer hours, two gender based mentoring programs, Unique and Man Up, began to create impactful positive change. Over the years, and with additional commitments from other dedicated adult volunteers vested in seeing children believe in themselves, their futures and their potentials, IMPACT Delaware, now serves hundreds of children each year from elementary school age through young adults in multiple communities. IMPACT Delaware is proven with evidence-based results that show even after one year in the program, youth have an increase in self-esteem, self-confidence, academic achievement, community engagement and volunteerism and ability to plan for the future.
